2014 OVID New Inspector Courses
Currently, there are no plans to hold any New Inspector Courses during 2014. If a course is arranged at a later date, details will be published
here and also included in our monthly newsletter.
2013 OVID Refresher Courses
At the start of the year, we advised that inspectors whose accreditation was expiring in 2013 would have a grace period in which to attend a refresher course.
Please note that this grace period expires at the end of 2013 – this means that any inspector whose accreditation expires during 2013, who has not successfully
passed a refresher course by the end of 2013, will automatically lose their accreditation. The only way to regain your accreditation at this point will be to
attend a full New Inspector course, for which a fee is payable. In addition, please note that we do not have any current plans to hold any New Inspector courses
OVID accreditation is valid for three years and so for those who were the first
to receive the OVID accreditation, there is now a requirement to attend the Refresher
Course to ensure that you are able to continue performing OVID inspections.
Mandatory Requirements – to qualify to attend one of these courses, BOTH of the following statements must be true:
1. You must be within in 12 months of your expiration date on your OVID card
2. You must have completed at least 1 OVID inspection prior to taking the refresher
If you do not meet BOTH requirements, you will not be allowed to attend a refresher course.
If you do not complete 1 inspection prior to your accreditation expiring (and so are not able to attend a
refresher course), you will lose your accredited inspector status, and will then need to apply to attend
a full New Inspectors course, for which you will be charged.
The refresher courses are free of charge to attend, will include lunch and the final exam at the end of the course.
If you meet the requirements and would like to put your name forward for these courses, please contact
Please be aware that if you do not pass the exam, your accreditation will be suspended until such time as you either
successfully pass the resit papers, or complete a full New Inspectors course to regain your accreditation.
This will mean that you are not able to carry out any OVID inspections.
As of January 1st, all OVID inspectors will be required to complete a minimum of 1 OVID inspection per year in order to retain their accreditation – this requirement will increase in future years.
If you have any questions regarding these courses please feel free to contact me at
firstname.lastname@example.org or email email@example.com.
All OVID inspectors should present their ID card at the time of boarding a vessel for an inspection. If you lose or break your ID card,
please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to request a new one.
